alovinglittlelady asked: So how did you make your SNK straps/harness? I've started a Mikasa cosplay and that's my only stumbling block.
So first I went and got 12 yards of belting, I would suggest a yard or two more because I almost did not have enough. Also get 5 buckles, some interfacing, and some gray fabric. Another is to google some ref of it for with out I would be totally lost and where goes where. I know there is a nice one online that is color coded!
Next I constructed patterns for the gray parts, including the back and the two side leg ones. Then cut out two pieces of fabric and one of interfacing for each part. Then sew them together with the interfacing on the top. Leave a hole for flipping it inside out and sewing shut.
Then I used an xacto knife to make slits where the straps go in and out of, and then burning the edges of slits so that it dosen’t fray.
Now for the confusing part of the harness is the straps. First rule I go by is that when ever you cut any of the belting burn the edges to prevent fraying. I just measured out each piece on my body and then sew a box stitch at that joint.
Also I divided the harness into two parts the bottom and the top and had them hook together by looping on to the waist belt.
Another thing is that when I wear mine I tend to also safety pin down every thing so the belts(especially on the legs) don’t get lose and fall down.
But really the whole process of my doing the belting was measuring it on my self and just making adjustments till it looks okay.
I hope this helps some what since I know this harness is so confussing. Sorry my explanation is not the best since I am not so good with explaining how to do something threw text. >_>’
